Panel discussion provides insights on topics such as: factors positively and negatively affecting to wood construction; the current strategies, practices, policy and regulation development supporting circular economy and climate smart construction.

 

About the Moderator

Erkki Verkasalo, Dr.Sc.(Agr.&For) is Research Professor of wood science and technology at the Natural Resources Institute Finland (Luke) since 2015, previously Professor of the same discipline at the Finnish Forest Research Institute (Metla), and located in Joensuu. He has academic degrees from University of Helsinki and Virginia Tech (USA). His expertise covers wood-based value chains from the forest to the market, with specialization in the characterization, sourcing and utilization of wood-based raw materials and products among SMEs in wood products sector and selected biorefining industries. His recent research has concentrated on materials, products and value networks of building and living with wood, and side streams, cascading and circular economy in wood products industries and wood construction. Verkasalo is a member of several RTDI networks and platforms in Europe and Finland, with projects of applied nature and dissemination and policy impact actions for the stakeholders.

 


The second international Drivers for Wood Construction event will be held in Joensuu 15.-16.5.2023 with the theme Holistic Approach Towards Sustainable Wood Construction.
